The second Terasem Colloquium of 2022 was held, via Zoom, on December 14, 2022, the 50th anniversary of the last day astronauts have been on the Moon. Apollo 17 astronauts Gene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt launched back to Earth from the Moon on December 14, 1972.

I started the Colloquium with a short introduction. The 50th anniversary of the last day astronauts have been on the Moon is a sad day, but things are finally beginning to move in the right direction. The speakers gave thoughtful, informative, and inspiring talks on spaceflight today and what could/should happen next.

Among the topics covered, the work and plans of the space organizations represented by the speakers, international cooperation and space law, space policies and technologies, and directions for permanent, sustainable, and responsible space expansion.

Frank White, the originator of the term “Overview Effect,” had to step aside for a while (don’t worry, he came back). Waiting for him to come back, we had a lively discussion on energy futures, nuclear fusion, space solar power, and futuristic technologies.

Michelle Hanlon discussed the impact of current law on human activities in space, the need to take immediate steps to assure the future of humanity in space and on Earth, and shared her view on what those steps must be.

Giuseppe Reibaldi described several activities initiated by the Moon Village Association (MVA), aimed to foster peaceful cooperation and coordination in the lunar exploration and utilization.

Marlène Michèle Losier talked about “Exploring the Derivation of Collective and Individual Rights for Expansion into Space Under International Conventional Law.”

Adriano Autino argued that space organizations are developing excellent outreach programmes, yet they are still mainly talking to the space community, to the already interested persons. That’s not enough anymore. Space organizations need to become political subjects.

Keith Henson discussed Nubian Vaults for radiation shielding on the moon and Mars, asteroid mining, GW lasers, power satellites, cheaper space transport, and related technologies.

Frank White discussed large-scale space migration and how it will benefit the Earth for large numbers of humans and industries to move out into the solar ecosystem.
